After winning the T20 World Cup,
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20 international
cricket.
In Barbados, India defeated South
Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling match to claim the ICC T20 World Cup title for
the second time.
Rohit Sharma led the Indian team to
the title 17 years after winning the first T20 World Cup under Dhoni leadership
in 2007. After the victory, Indian batter Virat Kohli announced his retirement
from T20 internationals.
Later, in a press conference, Rohit
Sharma also shocked fans by announcing his retirement from T20 internationals.
He said there was no better occasion
to bid farewell to the format than after winning the World Cup. He added that
he would continue playing One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket.
Rohit Sharma Career:
- Represented India in 159 T20 internationals and scored
the highest 4,231 runs in this format, with an average of 32.05.
- His T20 career includes 5 centuries and the record for
hitting the most 205 sixes in this format belongs to the Indian batter.
