Sri Lanka's Under-19 team captain, Dhammika Naroshnal, was allegedly shot and killed late at night. According to media reports, the incident took place at the former cricketer's residence in Ambalangoda, Kanda Mawatha, where he was present with his wife and two children. The assailant reportedly used a 12-bore pistol.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and took the body into custody while the formalities are being carried out. Dhammika Naroshnal was considered one of Sri Lanka's best all-rounders and played alongside renowned Lankan Tigers cricketers such as Farveez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews, and Upul Tharanga. Naroshnal announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 20.

Between 2001 and 2004, Naroshnal played 12 first-class matches and 8 List A matches for the Galle Cricket Club, scoring over 300 runs and taking 19 wickets. He debuted for Sri Lanka's Under-19 team in 2000 and served as captain for two years.
