The positions of ICC top officials are in jeopardy as allegations of financial irregularities during the recent T20 World Cup have intensified.

A 3-member committee has been given free rein to conduct transparent investigations, and a forensic audit of the event scheduled in the USA and West Indies might also be conducted.

According to foreign media, if any discrepancies are proven, Chairman Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Geoff Allardice might be dismissed, and another cultural review by the governing council is also possible.

Details reveal that the ICC unanimously approved a full investigation into the financial matters of the T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies during the recent board meeting. A 3-member committee was formed, consisting of Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja.

This committee has been given free rein for comprehensive investigations. ICC members suspect that some discrepancies occurred during this World Cup, which is why they want a full investigation. According to foreign media reports, an external company might be hired for a forensic audit. Every transaction related to the tournament will be reviewed. Sources also indicate that ICC members are clear that if any financial irregularities are proven, Chairman Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Geoff Allardice will have to step down.

Recently, event head Chris Tetley and marketing and communications head Claire Furlong resigned. The board wants no obstacles in these investigations. Along with the T20 World Cup investigations, another cultural review of the ICC is also possible.

A similar review was conducted by a renowned British firm in 2021, resulting in the dismissal of Chief Executive Manu Sawhney. At that time, the firm report was only shared with ICC board members, but it later disappeared, and neither the council nor any board member commented on it.

Another source stated that it is now necessary to improve matters and ensure that the ICC is heading in the right direction. Transparency in every matter is very important, and all stakeholders will closely monitor the T20 World Cup audit and the council review. It is noteworthy that the recent World Cup has raised many questions about ICC operations.
