Trinidad: In the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets to reach the final of the mega event for the first time.

South Africa easily chased Afghanistan's target of 56 runs in 8.5 overs, losing only one wicket. Quinton de Kock was the only Proteas batter to be dismissed, scoring 5 runs. Hendricks scored 29 and captain Aiden Markram remained not out with 23 runs.

The only South African wicket to fall was taken by Fazalhaq Farooqi.

In the mega event first semi-final at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The entire Afghan team was bowled out for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs.

No Afghan batter could stand against the excellent bowling of the Proteas bowlers. Azmatullah Omarzai was the only Afghan batsman to reach double figures, scoring 10 runs. Three players returned to the pavilion without scoring. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 0, Ibrahim Zadran 2, Gulbadin Naib 9, Mohammad Nabi 0, and Khrotay scored only 2 runs. Karim Janat and Rashid Khan both scored 8 runs, while Noor Ahmad scored 0 and Naveen-ul-Haq made 2 runs.

For South Africa, Tabraiz Shamsi and Marco Jansen took 3 wickets each, while Rabada and Anrich took 2 wickets each.

For the first time in history, the Afghan team had the honor of playing in the semi-final of the mega event.
