North Sound Antigua: In the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated West Indies by 3 wickets to qualify for the semi-finals.
South Africa won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first. The host
team, West Indies, could only score 135 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the
allotted 20 overs while batting first.
When South Africa started chasing the target, they had lost two players for
15 runs, after which rain interrupted the match. However, when the game
resumed, South Africa had to achieve a target of 123 runs in 17 overs.
Captain Aiden Markram scored 18 runs, Tristan Stubbs scored 29, and Heinrich
Klaasen scored 22 runs before getting out. Marco Jansen, who scored 21 runs not
out, played a crucial role in winning the match.
West Indian bowler Roston Chase took 3 wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs.
West Indies Innings: West Indies lost their first wicket
for two runs when Shai Hope returned to the pavilion without scoring any run.
Kyle Mayers scored 35 runs, and Nicholas Pooran's innings was limited to just
one run.
Roston Chase played an excellent inning, scoring a half-century, and
significantly contributed to the team total score. Chase's innings of 52 runs
included 2 sixes and 3 fours off 42 balls. Andre Russell got out after scoring
15 runs.
For South Africa, Shams Tabraiz took 3 wickets, while Marco Jansen, Aiden
Markram, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada took one wicket each.
The 50th match of the mega event was played at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket
Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
