Barbados: In the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, India became world champion for the second time after defeating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling match.

The South African team failed to chase India target of 177 runs and could only score 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Previously, India won the T20 Championship for the first time in 2007 by defeating Pakistan.

In the match played at Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados, India won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs, and Axar Patel contributed 47 runs.

India lost its first and second wickets at the total score of 23. Captain Rohit Sharma was caught out after scoring 9 runs, and Rishabh Pant returned to the pavilion without scoring.

India faced its third loss at a total score of 34 when Suryakumar Yadav was caught out after making 3 runs.

India's fourth wicket fell at 106 runs when Axar Patel was run out after scoring 47 runs. Virat Kohli was out after scoring 76 runs at the total score of 163.

In the final over, Shivam Dube was out for 27 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja for 2 runs. Hardik Pandya remained not out with 5 runs.

For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje took 2 wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen took one wicket each.

For the final, both India and South Africa retained their winning combination and made no changes to their teams.
